Hartlepool United rule out Ched Evans signing

League Two strugglers Hartlepool United rule out the prospect of signing convicted rapist Ched Evans following criticism from local MP Iain Wright.

Hartlepool United have ruled out the prospect of signing convicted rapist Ched Evans.

The 25-year-old, who was released from prison earlier this year, drew interest from manager Ronnie Moore, who claimed that there was "no reason" why he should not join the League Two strugglers.

However, following criticism from local MP Iain Wright, the club released a press statement claiming that they "do not intend signing Ched Evans" despite "his obvious ability as a football player."

Hartlepool sit bottom of the Football League, seven points away from safety.
