Manager Mark Bower displeased with Guiseley defending in 4-4 draw with Woking

Guiseley manager Mark Bower was unhappy with his side's defensive performance in their 4-4 draw with Woking, but praised his players for securing a late point.

Guiseley manager Mark Bower was not pleased with his side's performance in their 4-4 draw with Woking this afternoon.

The Lions went behind three times in a goal-filled draw, securing a point minutes from time through Jake Lawlor, though this did not take Bower's focus off of a poor defensive performance.

"Probably as disappointed as I have been in any game this season for large spells of the game, because we didn't do the basics well," the 35-year-old told the club's official website following the match.

"Obviously we have let four goals in, you are never going to be pleased with that. I am disappointed in some of the performances we have put in today.

"But you have got to have that overriding sense of pride that, even though things weren't going for us, not only did we come back from 2-0 down - we came back again and nicked a point in the end. You've got to be pleased with the lads' character and the way they kept going because it could have been a real uphill struggle after that."

Guiseley, promoted last season from the National League North, sit in 17th position in the league ahead of Tuesday's fixture with Halifax Town.
