Half-Time Report: Germany score five goals past Brazil in stunning first half

Germany shock Brazil in the first half of their World Cup semi-final to lead the hosts 5-0 in Belo Horizonte.

Germany have produced a stunning performance in the first half of the World Cup semi-final against Brazil to lead the hosts 5-0 at the interval in Belo Horizonte.

Brazil looked nervous at the back from the first whistle, and it wasn't long before the deadlock was broken as Thomas Muller found himself in plenty of space to volley home from a corner in just the 11th minute.

There was a record-breaking moment midway through the first half when Miroslav Klose scored his 16th World Cup goal by slotting home after Julio Cesar could only parry the experienced striker's initial effort.

The lead was extended even further less than a minute later as Toni Kroos arrived on the edge of the box to connect with a powerful half-volley which proved to be too strong for Cesar to keep out.

It was then 4-0 in the 26th minute as Kroos robbed a sloppy Fernandinho in possession before exchanging passes with Sami Khedira and tapping home his second of an incredible first half.

The misery continued to be piled on the hosts as Germany scored their fifth three minutes later through Khedira, who benefited from more poor defending to link up with Mesut Ozil before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

A shell-shocked Brazil side failed to produce a response before the break as Germany continued to threaten going forward until the half-time whistle saved the home supporters from further embarrassment in the first half.
