Roma will make an approach for Maurizio Sarri if he is sacked by Chelsea over the next few months, according to a report.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly the frontrunner to take over as the next manager of Italian club Roma.

The 60-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge has been called into question following an up-and-down first campaign at the club.

Sarri has failed to win over supporters with his style of play, but Chelsea still remain on course for a top-four finish in the Premier League and are on the brink of a Europa League semi-final spot.

Corriere dello Sport claims that Roma intend to make a move for the Italian, who came close to winning the Scudetto with Napoli last season, but only if he is sacked by his current club.

Roma apparently wanted Antonio Conte, another former Chelsea manager, to replace interim boss Claudio Ranieri, but he is believed to be in talks with Inter Milan.

There were rumours in February that Sarri has already met with Giallorossi chiefs, but the report indicates that Roma will instead wait for Chelsea to sack him before opening discussions.
