Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston wants Jose Riga stay

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston reveals that he now wants manager Jose Riga to remain at the club, following talks over the weekend.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has stated that he wants Jose Riga to remain as manager after holding talks with the Belgian over the weekend.

The 57-year-old had looked almost certain to leave the club after Oyston offered his job to Burton Albion boss Gary Rowett a week ago.

The Pool boss was given a warm reception by supporters at Saturday's home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Oyston has revealed that he is now ready to stick with Riga.

"After the game, Jose Riga and I had a really productive chat for more than an hour, one which was much-needed," Oyston told the Blackpool Gazette.

"We discussed what's right, what's wrong and what we need to do better, particularly between ourselves. We had a lengthy chat and covered everything, no holds barred. It's now about how we both respond to that.

"I'm happy to give him the support he needs and hopefully things can move forward now."

The Tangerines picked up their first Championship point of the season with the goalless draw against Wolves.
