Thomas Muller penalty completes Bayern Munich comeback

Thomas Muller's 90th-minute penalty earns Bayern Munich all three points as the champions come from behind to beat Augsburg 2-1.

Thomas Muller scored a 90th-minute penalty as Bayern Munich came from behind to protect their 100% record by beating Augsburg 2-1 at the Allianz Arena this afternoon.

An early warning was sent out by the visitors when Alexander Esswein fired an effort just wide of the post after peeling away from a couple of Bayern defenders.

The hosts started to dominate possession, but their best chance of the first half was stopped by Marwin Hitz, who produced a fine save to keep out Thiago Alcantara's header.

As Bayern piled the pressure on, Augsburg looked vulnerable when dropping deeper to invite more pressure from the home side.

However, the visitors broke the deadlock against the run of play just before the break when Esswein capitalised on space to beat Manuel Neuer with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

An equaliser looked inevitable when a patient Bayern move ended with Robert Lewandowski collecting the ball in the box, but Hitz reacted impressively to deny the Polish striker.

Hitz continued to frustrate Pep Guardiola's side with his fine form as he pushed away a Xabi Alonso free kick which looked destined for the back of the net.

The Augsburg goalkeeper was helpless when Bayern finally turned pressure into an equaliser thanks to Lewandowski, who reacted quickest to slot home after Hitz had denied Muller.

Predictably, the champions forced the visitors back as they went in search of a winner and Markus Feulner gifted them the chance to collect all three points when he brought down Douglas Costa in the box.

Muller stepped up to take the responsibility from 12 yards and he confidently fired in the penalty to hand Bayern a fourth successive league win.
