Extreme heat leads to Katie Swan exit at US Open

British junior Katie Swan withdraws from her US Open first-round contest with Tessah Andrianjafitrimo after struggling with the hot conditions in New York.

Leading British junior Katie Swan has bowed out of the US Open after struggling with the hot conditions during her first-round contest with Tessah Andrianjafitrimo.

The 16-year-old, who reached the Australian Open final at the start of 2015, had been handed a tough draw against Andrianjafitrimo and had dropped the first set on a tie-break.

Swan immediately fell a break behind at the start of the second before the doctor was called onto Court 6 to assess her condition.

After a 10-minute break, she was allowed to continue, but a game later, the decision was made for Swan to withdraw from the match before she was helped off court with heat exhaustion.
