Conor O'Shea confirmed as new Italy head coach

Former Harlequins director Conor O'Shea is confirmed as the new head coach of Italy on a four-year deal.

Conor O'Shea has been confirmed as the new head coach of Italy.

The 45-year-old was expected to take over after revealing that he will leave his role as director of rugby at Harlequins at the end of the season.

O'Shea will replace Jacques Brunel, whose contract expired at the end of the Six Nations, which was a disappointing tournament for the Italians as they finished at the bottom of the table after five straight defeats.

The new coach will begin his job by leading the team into a three-Test tour against Argentina, the United States and Canada in June.

Harlequins won the Premiership title in 2012, the LV Cup and the European Challenge Cup in 2011 while O'Shea was director.
