Wolverhampton Wanderers see off Bristol City

Wolverhampton Wanderers register successive victories in League One as Matt Doherty's late goal secures a 2-1 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Matt Doherty scored an 85th-minute winner as Wolverhampton Wanderers secured back-to-back victories with a 2-1 triumph over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The visitors took a narrow 1-0 lead into the interval courtesy of Bakary Sako's thunderbolt free kick on 22 minutes.

However, Sean O'Driscoll's men pulled level midway through the second half thanks to Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, but Wolves snatched the points in the dying minutes through centre-back Doherty.

Kenny Jackett's men could have gone ahead as early as the fifth minute, with Leigh Griffiths coming close to adding to his double from last week, but his 30-yard strike was expertly tipped past the post by City goalkeeper Frank Fielding.

Sako was the next player to try his luck from long range, but he saw his bid to open the scoring rebuffed by the impressive Robins keeper once more.

However, Fielding was powerless to prevent the Frenchman's next effort on goal, with Sako's free kick sailing into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

The hosts did not have to wait long in the second half to restore parity, as Emmanuel-Thomas levelled matters on 53 minutes.

Sam Baldock dispossessed defender Richard Stearman before squaring to Emmanuel-Thomas, who confidently stroked his shot past Carl Ikeme in the Wolves goal.

Things nearly went from bad to worse for the visitors, but Ikeme pulled off an excellent double-save to deny Baldock giving his team the lead.

Kenny Jackett's men weathered a storm of City pressure and snatched the points in the remaining five minutes through Doherty.
