Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker feels that his versatility is not helpful when attempting to produce consistent performances.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker says that his versatility does not benefit him when it comes to producing consistent performances.

Dendoncker has largely been used as a central midfielder this season, the Belgium international getting on the scoresheet as Wolves beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

However, the 26-year-old, who is regarded as an alternative to Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, has come in for criticism at times this season.

Dendoncker feels that a regular run of appearances in the middle of the pitch would help his case, whether that be as part of a two or three-man partnership.

Speaking to PlaySports, Dendoncker said: "A new manager means a new philosophy. When Nuno Espirito Santo arrived, I also sat the first few games on the bench before scrounging game time bit by bit.

"My versatility doesn't help me, I don't think. I'm somehow put in midfield, sometimes in defence, which makes it difficult to continuously produce good performances. My favourite role is in midfield."

Dendoncker has made a total of 11 starts in the Premier League this season, with a further eight outings coming from the substitutes' bench.
