Preview: Woking vs. Dagenham & Redbridge - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Woking and Dagenham & Redbridge, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Woking will be looking to make it three National League victories in a row when they continue their 2021-22 campaign at home to high-flying Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently 12th in the table, having collected 12 points from their opening seven matches, while Dagenham sit second with 19 points to show from their first nine fixtures.

Woking struggled for results during the 2020-21 National League campaign, picking up just 33 points from 42 matches to finish 20th in the table, and the fact that they lost 25 times in the league this season will have been a concern for a number of their supporters entering 2021-22.

Alan Dowson's side should be full of confidence at the moment, though, having recorded back-to-back successes over Chesterfield and Notts County to move onto 12 points from their seven matches.

The fact that Woking are 12th in the table and have at least one game in hand over the majority of the sides in the division means that it has been a strong start to the campaign for the club.

Chesterfield and Notts County have both enjoyed strong starts to the season, but the Cardinals won 3-1 at home to the former on September 28 before recording a 4-1 victory over the latter on Saturday afternoon.

Dagenham, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 3-2 home defeat to Altrincham on Saturday, which would have been a very difficult result for the home side to accept considering the circumstances.

Indeed, the Essex outfit were 2-1 ahead until the 87th minute of the contest, when Josh Hancock levelled the scores, before Dan Mooney came up with a last-gasp winner for the visitors.

Dagenham are no longer top of the table, with Grimsby Town moving to the summit, but it has still been a positive start to the season for the Daggers, as a total of 19 points from nine matches has left them second, only a point behind Grimsby on the same number of matches.

Daryl McMahon's side, who finished 12th in the National League last season, will believe that they are good enough to challenge for a playoff spot this term, and the club now have two huge away games against Woking and Boredom Wood before welcoming Southend United on October 23.

Team News

Woking did not pick up any injury concerns in their win over Notts County at Meadow Lane, and head coach Dowson could decide to send the same starting XI onto the field.

Tahvon Campbell and Inih Effiong scored three times between them on Saturday, and it would be a huge surprise if either player dropped out of an attacking position for the home side.

Arguably the only real talking point in terms of team selection involves Tyreke Johnson, who is pushing to replace 35-year-old Tom Champion in a midfield area.

Dagenham boss McMahon is expected to resist the temptation to shuffle his pack for Tuesday's encounter, as the Daggers were in control for long stages of their clash with Altrincham.

There could be a change in midfield, though, with Angelo Balanta potentially replacing Joseph Jones, while Samuel Ling is also pushing for a spot in the final third of the field.

However, McMahon is unlikely to spring any major surprises, with Paul McCallum and Joshua Walker set to continue as the front two for the away side.

Woking possible starting lineup:
Ross; Lofthouse, Casey, McNerney, Diarra; Champion, Ince, Nwabuokei, Kretzschmar; Campbell, Effiong

Dagenham & Redbridge possible starting lineup:
Justham; Wright, Reynolds, Johnson, Weston; Sagaf, Balanta, Robinson, Vilhete; Walker, McCallum

We say: Woking 1-1 Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham will be desperate to bounce back on Tuesday night, but the Daggers have now lost two of their last three league matches, and we are finding it difficult to back the visitors to overcome an in-form Woking, so a low-scoring draw could be on the cards here.
