Peter Odemwingie reveals that he was close to leaving West Brom in the summer.

West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie has revealed that he almost left the Premier League club in the summer.

The 31-year-old asked to leave the club due to doubts over his ability to excel in England.

He was also offered a lucrative deal to move to Qatar but in the end, incoming manager Steve Clarke was able to persuade him to stay.

"I thought there would be nothing new for me at West Brom and gave it a try (asked about leaving)," Odemwingie said.

"Summer was a time when, at my age, I had second thoughts about continuing to play at this level.

"But the club said that I still had a role to play, then pre-season started and I was hungry again."

Reports in the summer had suggested that Odemwingie had argued with Clarke over the club's decision to reject a bid from Al-Gharafa, but the striker insisted that that was not the case.

He continued: "I don't know where that came from.

"We sat down and had a normal talk. He said he would give it a few weeks and see how things went.

"I started enjoying training and forgot all about the bid."

West Brom will travel to Fulham once the Premier League resumes after the international break.
