Tottenham Hotspur 'rejected Christian Eriksen, Paulo Dybala swap'

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly turned down the chance to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala in a swap deal involving midfielder Christian Eriksen earlier this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly rejected a deal that would have seen Christian Eriksen and Juventus striker Paulo Dybala swap clubs this summer.

Dybala is understood to have agreed terms over a move to North London before the Premier League transfer window closed on August 8.

However, the deal broke down due to complications over the Argentine's image rights and Spurs instead brought Giovani Lo Celso to the club on deadline day.

The Daily Mail now claims that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino turned down the chance to swap Dybala for Eriksen, whose current contract at the club expires next summer.

Pochettino had been confident that Eriksen would sign a new deal, but negotiations have so far proved fruitless and Spurs now risk losing the Dane for free in 2020 if they cannot offload him before the end of the European transfer window.

Juventus and Barcelona are now the frontrunners for his signature, and Eriksen is said to have no interest in staying at Spurs after rejecting all of their proposals.

The 27-year-old will be free to talk to teams outside of England from January 1.
