Tim Sherwood saddened by Jermain Defoe exit

Tim Sherwood says that he will be sorry to see a player of Jermain Defoe's calibre leave Tottenham Hotspur after the striker agreed a switch to Toronto FC.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has revealed that he is sad to be losing a "fine goalscorer" in Jermain Defoe after the striker agreed a move to Toronto FC earlier this week.

Defoe is poised to swap North London for Canada when he joins up with the MLS outfit next month.

The 31-year-old marked one of his final appearances at White Hart Lane with a goal in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace today, and Sherwood admits that Spurs will lose one of the country's most dangerous strikers.

"It was a typical Jermain Defoe finish. He's pounced on it and stuck," he told reporters.

"I'll be sorry to lose Jermain. Toronto are getting a fine goalscorer. I don't think there are many better goalscorers than Jermain out there."

Defoe has hit over 100 goals for the Lilywhites during two separate spells in North London.
