Preview: Ross County vs. Aberdeen - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Ross County and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aberdeen will be looking to solidify their place in the top six of the Scottish Premiership when they travel to Ross County on Tuesday evening.

The hosts twice came from behind to earn a point against champions Rangers at the weekend, whilst the visitors saw their fixture with St Johnstone postponed.

One of the highlights of Ross County's season so far arrived at the Global Energy Stadium on Saturday, as Matthew Wright's equaliser six minutes into stoppage time earned them a share of the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw with leaders Rangers.

After falling behind just five minutes in, Jordan White and Regan Charles-Cook netted a quickfire double in the first half to turn the game on its head going into half time.

Despite going 3-2 down in the second half, Malky Mackay's side remained excellent on the counter attack and were clinical with the few chances that they created, and Wright was on hand to prod home a scrappy leveller in the dying stages.

The point leaves Ross County in 10th place heading into Tuesday's fixture, with five points now separating them from Dundee below them, and six between themselves and their opponents in midweek, who are in an unlikely target of sixth.

Mackay will now hope his side can take the positive mood created at the weekend and build on it by picking up a positive result in midweek, with a repeat of the remarkable 4-1 victory in this fixture back in January of last year being the ideal scenario.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen head to Ross County hoping their fresher legs can provide them with an advantage on Tuesday, after their fixture with St Johnstone on Saturday was called off due to severe weather conditions.

It means their last action was in the disappointing 1-0 defeat at St Mirren seven days prior to this clash, where Stephen Glass's side dominated but failed to register a single shot on target in a poor display in front of goal.

That loss continued the worrying recent form of Aberdeen on their travels this season, with the Dons winning just once in their last 12 away games in all competitions, nine of which have ended in defeat.

Those troubles on the road have left Tuesday's visitors down in sixth as previously mentioned, and level on points with Dundee United in the place directly below them outside of the top six.

Glass and his side therefore remain in an unexpected battle to seal a top six spot come April, and should that poor run continue in midweek and on their trip to Livingston at the weekend, Aberdeen could well find themselves in the bottom half with an uphill task ahead of them for the remainder of the campaign.

Team News

Ross County have just the one injury concern to deal with ahead of Tuesday, with midfielder David Cancola likely to miss out once more due to a groin injury.

Mackay could opt to name an unchanged starting 11 from the one that battled excellently to earn a point against Rangers at the weekend.

That would see Charles-Cook, Ross Callachan and Watford-loanee Joseph Hungbo support White in attack for the hosts.

As for the visitors, they will have to do without Ryan Hedges at the Global Energy Stadium, after the winger completed a move to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

Marley Watkins, Andrew Considine and Michael Devlin are the only three injury concerns as things stand, with the trio all pushing to return in the coming days.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is an option to replace the departed Hedges, and he would support Christian Ramirez in attack, who is Aberdeen's top goalscorer this season with eight Scottish Premiership goals.

Ross County possible starting lineup:
Brewer; Ramsay, Baldwin, Iacovitti, Vokins; Tillson, Paton; Charles-Cook, Callachan, Hungbo; White

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Ramsay, McCrorie, Bates, Campbell; Brown, Ferguson; Emmanuel-Thomas, Jenks, Ojo; Ramirez

We say: Ross County 1-1 Aberdeen

With the hosts in a buoyant mood following their last-gasp point against Rangers at the weekend, we can see them heading into Tuesday's clash with plenty of confidence against Aberdeen.

The visitors remain poor on their travels this season, so we can see them slipping up again in a fixture that looks likely to finish level.
