Gael Danic strikes sinks Rennes

Bastia beat Rennes 1-0 thanks a late Gael Danic goal.

Rennes missed the chance to leapfrog eighth-placed Montpellier HSC as they were beaten by 10-man Bastia in Ligue 1.

The Corsicans snatched victory at the Stade Dele Route de Lorient after Gael Danic scored 12 minutes from time.

Bastia nearly opened the scoring inside 13 minutes when Julian Palmieri's shot was only inches away from finding the top corner of the net.

Rennes almost took the lead midway through the first half when Abdoulaye Doucoure fired wide for the hosts.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men before the interval as Francois Kamano picked up a second yellow card for a challenge on Mathieu Peybernes.

Rennes came close to taking advantage of that dismissal when they were awarded a penalty for Guillaume Gillet's hand ball, but Paul-Georges Ntep saw his spot kick saved by Alphonse Areola.

Moments later, the hosts were again threatening a breakthrough as Ola Toivonen rattled the crossbar.

However, it was Bastia who took home the three points when Danic scored from the edge of the area late on.
