Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly desperate to stay at Barcelona this summer.

Frenkie de Jong is reportedly desperate to stay at Barcelona this summer despite being strongly linked with a move away from Camp Nou earlier this year.

Amid the club's financial problems, there were suggestions that the Netherlands international could leave in January, with Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United all credited with an interest.

However, the 24-year-old remained with Xavi's side past the deadline, and he has impressed in Barcelona's last two league victories over Alaves and Atletico Madrid, playing the full 90 minutes in both matches.

There remains speculation surrounding his future, but according to Sport, the Dutchman is determined to remain at the Catalan outfit on a long-term basis.

The report claims that Barcelona, who are next in action away to Espanyol on Sunday, are also 'convinced' that the midfielder 'can play a vital role in the club's future'.

De Jong - contracted to the La Liga giants until June 2026 - has scored twice and registered two assists in 27 appearances at club level this season.
