Vincent Kompany insists that Manchester City will continue to "take it game by game" after moving to within one win of a third Premier League title success in six years.

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has admitted that winning the Premier League title against Manchester United "would mean the world" to the club's supporters.

The Citizens will be crowned champions for a third time in six years if they take all three points in next weekend's meeting with their arch-rivals at the Etihad Stadium.

Kompany insists that all focus right now is on next opponents Liverpool, however, as City travel to Anfield on Wednesday night for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Speaking after the 3-1 win over Everton, the Belgian centre-back told BT Sport: "We have done incredibly well so far. It's steady but we have a big game midweek and then we have to deal with Manchester United on Saturday.

"We'll take it game by game but we have done very well so far. It would mean the world to our fans. I have lived in Manchester long enough to know what it means.

"It will be lively and spicy but I don't mind. Manchester United have seven days to prepare, but we need momentum so we need a good Champions League game."

Man City are the 10th team to have beaten every other top-flight club within the same season, and the first since Manchester United in 2010-11.
