Pablo Chavarria strikes earns Lens win over Nantes

Lens beat Nantes thanks to a solitary strike from Pablo Chavarria at the Stade de la Licorne.

Pablo Chavarria's fourth-minute goal was enough to see already-relegated Lens sign off their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Nantes.

Les Sang et Or started brightly, with Pierrick Valdivia forcing an early save out of Remy Riou before they quickly took the lead.

Their goal came after Aristote Madiani played in Chavarria, and the Argentine forward slid the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Nantes were almost back on level terms moments later as Yacine Bammou fired wide of the Lens goal.

The visitors enjoyed more of the attacking opportunities, with Bammou and Serge Gakpe twice going close to netting an equaliser.

Bammou was again denied on the stroke of half time as the Canaries continued to waste their chances.

Late goal-scoring opportunities from Jordan Veretout and Ismael Bangoura also came and went as Lens held on for a rare victory.
