Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is reportedly ruled out of Wednesday's Premier League clash against Luton Town due to injury and has emerged as a doubt for Sunday's EFL Cup final with Chelsea.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is reportedly set to miss Wednesday's Premier League clash against Luton Town due to injury and has emerged as a doubt for Sunday's EFL Cup final with Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

The 31-year-old last started for the Reds on New Year's Day in a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United before travelling to Ivory Coast to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Salah sustained a muscle injury just two group-stage games into the tournament and made a swift return to Merseyside to undergo treatment with Liverpool's rehabilitation team.

Salah spent a few weeks in recovery before returning to the matchday squad for Liverpool's 4-1 victory away against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The attacker made an earlier-than-expected introduction as a substitute towards the end of the first half, after Diogo Jota was stretchered off with a knee injury, before the Egyptian scored and provided an assist to help Liverpool maintain their place at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp's side have now turned their attention to this weekend's EFL Cup final and will endeavour to win the first piece of silverware on offer this term at the expense of Salah's former club Chelsea.

However, Liverpool may have to cope without the presence of Salah as Ahmed Shoubir, a presenter on Egyptian TV station OnTimeSports, claims that the Reds attacker suffered a recurrence of the same muscle injury in his cameo appearance against Brentford.

Shoubir has also revealed that Salah will not be fit to play in Liverpool's next Premier League game against Luton Town at Anfield on Wednesday night.

"I have sad news, I learned that Salah suffered an injury at the end of the meeting between Liverpool and Brentford and renewed injury suffered during the camp of the Egyptian national team," Shoubir told OnTimeSports as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

"Salah unfortunately will not be able to play the next Liverpool Premier League match against Luton Town. This is my information and I hope that the news is not true, but it is largely true."

Liverpool's No.11 has once again been an integral figure in Klopp's side this season having scored 19 goals and provided 10 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Salah could be the latest name to be added to a growing injury list for Liverpool including Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold (both knee), Alisson Becker, Dominik Szoboszlai (both hamstring), Joel Matip (ACL) and Stefan Bajcetic (calf).

Like Jota, who could reportedly be facing around two months on the sidelines, both Curtis Jones (shin) and Darwin Nunez (unspecified) were withdrawn in the win against Brentford and will be assessed ahead of Wednesday's clash with Luton.
