Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra wants to return to Spain

Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra signals his intentions to return to his homeland after struggling in his first season in English football.

Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra has admitted that he has struggled to adapt to football in England.

The 33-year-old joined the Bluebirds on a three-year deal last summer but struggled to make an impact, starting just twice in the League Cup and not making a start in the Championship under either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or his successor Russell Slade.

He spent the second half of the season on loan at Malaga in La Liga, scoring five goals in 14 appearances for the Spanish side.

Guerra is now hoping that he can be released from his Cardiff contract in order to return to his homeland.

"The situation in sporting terms is not good and I imagine we need to try to reach an agreement and terminate the contract," Guerra told BBC Radio Wales.

"It's not that it's difficult, it's just the mentality or the way you see football is different in Spain. At the beginning the adaptation wasn't easy... with people saying this player isn't worth the money or we don't like this player.

"I blame both myself and the club to have not succeeded."

Guerra scored 72 times in 149 games for Real Valladolid before his move to Cardiff.
