Preview: Cadiz vs. Mallorca - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Cadiz and Mallorca, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Cadiz and Mallorca will both be looking to bring an end to winless runs in La Liga when they face off at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts are without a win in six and are in the bottom three, while Mallorca have slipped to 12th after a run of three games without a victory.

Following back-to-back losses to Espanyol and Alaves without scoring, Cadiz were on course to give their season lift-off at long last in their midweek meeting with Villarreal.

Choco Lozano's hat-trick had Los Piratas 3-1 up heading into the final 10 minutes, but Villarreal hit back to rescue a 3-3 draw, with their equaliser arriving in the 95th minute.

That was a cruel outcome for Cadiz and means they enter this weekend's fixtures in the relegation zone, having also played a game more than the two teams directly above them.

Gabi's men have won only one of their first 11 matches - a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo in September - yet they have taken points off Real Betis, Valencia, Villarreal and Barcelona.

Wins are required if they are to drag themselves out of danger, though, and Sunday's visit of Mallorca perhaps presents a good opportunity to get three points on the board.

The visitors started their campaign with seven points from their first three matches, but since then they have won only one of their following eight games.

Los Bermellones have played out successive draws ahead of their trip to Cadiz, squandering a late two-goal lead against Valencia before battling to a point at Sevilla.

That draw with Valencia ended a three-match losing run on their travels that includes a 6-1 thrashing at Real Madrid.

Cadiz are winless in seven at home in the league stretching back into last season, meanwhile, failing to score in the last four of those, so Mallorca will be targeting a win here.

Team News

Martin Calderon has been nursing an injury of late and is expected to miss out once again for Cadiz, while Varazdat Haroyan is serving a one-match ban.

With Haroyan out, Juan Cala is the most likely option to come into central defence alongside Victor Chust.

Should Gabi wish to freshen things up further, Tomas Alarcon and Salvi Sanchez could come into the side following the draw with Villarreal in midweek.

As for Mallorca, Jaume Costa was sent off late on against Sevilla and will therefore play no part in this contest.

Rodrigo Battaglia and Lee Kang-in are also serving suspensions for the visitors, while Takefusa Kubo is injured, so Luis Garcia Plaza is a little light on options.

Mallorca may name an identical XI to the one fielded against Sevilla in the week, albeit in a slightly different setup.

Cadiz possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Iza, Cala, Chust, Espino; Fernandez, Alarcon, Fali; Sanchez, Lozano, Sobrino

Mallorca possible starting lineup:
Reina; Maffeo, Valjent, Russo, Olivan; Galarreta, Baba; Ndiaye, Sanchez, D. Rodriguez; A. Rodriguez

We say: Cadiz 0-1 Mallorca

Both sides are in need of a victory to climb up the division and each will see this as a chance to get some points on the board.

Mallorca have struggled on their travels, but they are up against a Cadiz side without a goal at home in four games, and we can see them coming away with victory here.
