David Lopez steals Brighton & Hove Albion point against Millwall

David Lopez nets a penalty in the 88th minute to rescue Brighton a point against Millwall, who had been 2-0 ahead at The Amex.

David Lopez scored a penalty in the 88th minute to earn Brighton & Hove Albion a point against Millwall, who had led 2-0 at The Amex.

Liam Trotter tested Tomasz Kuczsak inside the first minute as the visitors made a bright start. They took the lead after 24 minutes through in-form frontman Chris Wood.

The New Zealand international was picked out by left-back Shane Lowry and flicked home at the near post.

Brighton almost responded minutes after but skipper Gordon Greer could only watch as his header rattled the angle of the goal.

Trotter had the chance to make it two before the break but missed the target with a free header as the Lions went in with a slender lead.

David Lopez hit the frame of the goal with a free kick as Brighton pushed for an equaliser but moments later they were two down.

It was Wood again who found the net, this time collecting the ball and rifling into the top corner with his left foot from 25 yards.

The Seagulls got one back almost instantly as first-half substitute Kazenga LuaLua cut in from the left and powered a low shot past David Forde.

Brighton thought that they had completed the comeback 15 minutes from time when Adam El-Abd poked home from a goalmouth scramble but referee Keith Stroud felt that the ball hadn't crossed the line.

Gus Poyet's side found the equaliser with just two minutes on the clock when Danny Shittu felled Craig Mackail-Smith in the area and Lopez made no mistake from 12 yards.
