Michael Ballack: 'Pep Guardiola is right man for Bayern Munich'

Michael Ballack insists that Pep Guardiola is still the right man to deliver success at Bayern Munich.

Former Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack has claimed that Pep Guardiola is still the right man to take the club forward.

Despite cruising to the Bundesliga title, Guardiola has been criticised for failing to deliver success in the DFB-Pokal or the Champions League, but Ballack believes that the reaction to Bayern's campaign has been unfair.

"Pep's footballing expertise is indisputable. He is a top coach and, in my opinion, the right person for Bayern," the German told SID.

"They played excellent football for long stretches of the season. As the championship was over, it was clear they lost some drive. But that's always the danger with top teams like them.

"At the moment there is a lot of complaining. Everybody should get some perspective, especially as they were eliminated from the Champions League by very good opponents, probably the favourites. Bayern's foundation for the next few years is magnificent."

Guardiola's current deal expires at the end of next season, but the club are believed to be keen to offer him an extension.
