Preview: Altrincham vs. Barnet - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's National League clash between Altrincham and Barnet, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Altrincham will be looking for a third consecutive victory when they welcome Barnet to Moss Lane for a National League contest on Monday.

The visitors, meanwhile, have the chance to clinch back-to-back away victories after beating Eastleigh in their last away trip.

Match preview

Altrincham enter Monday's contest in a risk-free 14th position, having accumulated 53 points from their 40 league matches this season.

Monday's hosts know that their stay in the National League will extend into a third season, but before they go on their summer break, they must negotiate four league matches.

Phil Parkinson's side are set to improve on last season's 17th-placed finish, while they have also collected six more points than they did in the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign.

Alty head into the home meeting with Barnet in a confident mood after winning their last two matches, including a 1-0 win in their most recent outing against Dover Athletic.

A first-half strike from Josh Hancock proved enough to help Altrincham beat relegated Dover, ensuring that Alty have the opportunity to win three consecutive games on Monday.

Barnet, on the other hand, are currently seven points adrift of their hosts, but their National League place is also assured for next season.

After losing four consecutive games, the Bees have shown signs of improvement in the last couple of matches after they followed a 3-2 win over Eastleigh with a 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town.

However, they would have been disappointed to not collect all three points against the Mariners after letting a two-goal lead slip.

Adam Mariott put Barnet ahead before a Robert Hall own goal doubled the advantage, but as it transpired they would have to settle for a point, with Andy Smith and Luke Waterfall scoring in the final 10 minutes to deny the Bees the win.

Dean Brennan's side will be looking for all three points on Monday, but a side with the third-worst defensive record in the National League must be resolute if they are to beat Altrincham.

Team News

Toby Malarkey dropped down to the Altrincham bench on Saturday, but he could be brought back into the starting lineup on Monday.

There could be a place in the side for Andy White, with Parkinson looking to keep his side fresh due to the quick turnaround from Saturday's contest.

As for Barnet, Jordan Thomas misses out due to an ankle problem, while Jake Askew is also missing through injury.

Marriott has scored four goals in his last three appearances, and the forward will be looking for more when he leads the line on Monday.

Altrincham possible starting lineup:
Thompson; White, Mullarkey, Ferguson, Jones; Marriott, Osborne; Colclough, Mooney, Kosylo; Hancock

Barnet possible starting lineup:
Azaze; Howe, Marshall, Richards-Everton, Taylor; De Havilland, Fonguck; Mason-Clarke, Hall, Powell; Marriott

We say: Altrincham 2-0 Barnet

Altrincham are unbeaten in their last eight home matches, while they have won six of those contests, and we think that Alty will use home advantage to clinch another victory at Moss Lane on Monday.
