Fernando Gonzalez nearing retirement

Fernando Gonzalez is expected to end his tennis career later today if he loses to Nicolas Mahut in Miami.

Chile's Fernando Gonzalez will potentially play his last professional tennis match against Nicolas Mahut in Miami later today.

The 31-year-old is expected to announce his retirement as soon as he exits the competition in the United States of America.

Gonzalez has competed in two Olympic Games, collecting gold, silver and bronze medals.

His best performance in a Grand Slam came at the Australian Open in 2007 when he lost to former world number one Roger Federer in the final.

Gonzalez's highest-ever ranking was number five, achieved shortly after his loss to Federer in Melbourne.
