Serena Williams fights back to beat Ana Ivanovic

World number one Serena Williams comes from a set down to beat Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open.

Serena Williams has come from a set down to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open, beating Serbia's Ana Ivanovic 3-6 6-4 6-2.

The world number one broke Ivanovic in the first game of the match, but dropped her own serve three times in the opening set to give the world number nine the lead.

The American started the second strongly as she tried to level the match, immediately breaking Ivanovic's serve, before the Serb hit back, taking a 4-3 lead only to hand her opponent three games in a row, sending the match into a deciding set.

It was Ivanovic who made the better start to the third as Williams made a string of errors in the opening game to find herself a break down.

However, the top seed rattled off five games in a row to clinch the match, despite Ivanovic battling hard to save a match point in the final game.

Williams will face the winner of the match between Elina Svitolina and Lucie Safarova for a place in the final.
