Gareth Ainsworth apologises to Wycombe Wanderers fans

Manager Gareth Ainsworth apologises to the Wycombe Wanderers supporters who travelled to watch Saturday's 2-0 defeat at York City.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth has apologised to the Wycombe Wanderers supporters who travelled to watch Saturday's 2-0 defeat at York City.

Goals from Ryan Bowman and Josh Carson consigned the Chairboys to their second loss in a week, and Ainsworth has made it clear that he expects a big improvement from his side in their next fixture - a trip to Cheltenham Town on Tuesday.

He told reporters: "We didn't get out of the blocks at the start. We were poor and the wind was right in our face, they knew what they were doing as they turned us around straight from kickoff and they took advantage. We didn't get out of our half and we didn't get going, and by that time we were 1-0 down with a soft penalty.

"You can't afford to do that, especially where we are in the league and especially at this stage of the season. The second goal before half time was absolutely comedy for me as they went and scored from our corner. It's the killer blow because if we go in 1-0 down then we have something to really go for in the second half especially with the wind."

"I apologise to the fans who made the trip up here. It's not acceptable for me and we'll be doing everything to put it right on Tuesday."

Wycombe are currently 20th in the League Two table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
