Paul Lambert wants new striker in January

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert reveals that he is planning to bring in a new striker in the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has revealed that he is planning to bring in a new striker in the January transfer market.

The Midlands side are currently hovering above the Championship relegation zone and have not had a goal scored by a recognised striker since August 20, a statistic Lambert described as "incredible".

"It says a lot when [midfielder] Dave Edwards is your top goalscorer," Lambert told the Express & Star. "It's incredible. That's something that has to be addressed.

"[Jon Dadi] Bodvarsson, I never realised until somebody told me that he's not had a break for two years. That's extraordinary. And what a terrific guy he is – a great pro, everything you want. He's excellent. They tell me that when he first came in he was outstanding. But that's a freshness and a newness to the league. That time of not having a break has hit him. He was running on empty. Nouha Dicko's just come back from a lay off, [Joe] Mason's been out injured.

"We need to try and get somebody in to give them a hand. That's what we need to try and do. Competition is vital. I think you need at least four centre-forwards and four centre-halves, every other position has two. It's a long season and centre-halves and centre-forwards get kicked. We have to get them through this period until we get to January."

Lambert has previously revealed that he is planning a massive shakeup next month with the aim of trimming his 30-plus squad down to 23.
