Half-Time Report: Oriol Riera goal puts Wigan Athletic in the lead against Blackpool

Oriol Riera's goal in the 35th minute gives Wigan Athletic a 1-0 half-time lead over Blackpool in today's Championship clash at the DW Stadium.

Oriol Riera's goal in the 35th minute has given Wigan Athletic a 1-0 half-time lead over Blackpool in today's Championship clash at the DW Stadium.

The opening stages of the game were marked with some strong challenges, which resulted in James McArthur and David Perkins going into the book after just six minutes of play.

On the quarter-hour mark, Emmerson Boyce had a chance for Wigan following a near-post run, but he subsequently fired over.

The home side continued to grow into the game, with Callum McManaman firing wide after a dangerous ball across goal from Riera. Just four minutes later, Don Cowie sent a header over the bar.

Eventually, Wigan were able to break the deadlock with just ten minutes to go in the first half as Riera drilled a low effort past Joe Lewis inside a crowded penalty area.
