Teddy Sheringham: 'No decision over Tom Hitchcock red-card appeal'

Teddy Sheringham says that he has yet to decide whether to appeal against the red card picked up by loan striker Tom Hitchcock ahead of Monday's 1pm deadline.

Stevenage manager Teddy Sheringham has revealed that he is yet to decide whether to appeal Tom Hitchcock's looming suspension.

The 22-year-old striker, who is currently on loan from MK Dons, was shown a red card after a coming-together with Mawouna Amevor in Boro's 2-0 reverse to Notts County.

Hitchcock now faces the prospect of sitting out his side's next three games, which will take him through to the end of his one-month loan deal.

Speaking to reporters, Sheringham said: "We've just been talking about that. We had a lot of conversations yesterday and today, and [we] still don't really know.

"It has to be done by 1pm today if we're going to do that. We'll see. It's a strange one. At the time I thought both could get nothing, both could get bookings, both could get reds. It depends on the referee, and he decided to do that.

"Bit strange in my view, because there was five minutes to go in the game. The game's over. Does he need to really be doing that? I didn't think so. It's not so much the point of being sent off, it's that he misses three games now."

Hitchcock was making his debut for Stevenage on Saturday, having joined the club just 24 hours beforehand.
