Adam Eckersley heads for Forfar

The Englishman has gone out on loan until the end of the season.

Adam Eckersley has become the latest player to depart St Mirren after joining Forfar on loan until the end of the season.

The English full-back, whose Buddies deal expires in the summer, helped Saints win promotion last term but has not featured for the Paisley outfit at all this season despite recently returning from a lengthy injury lay-off.

And with boss Oran Kearney desperate to trim a first-team squad that at one point contained 31 players, he has become the 10th player to be shown the door this month.

Kearney told the St Mirren website: "It's been a frustrating time for Adam in relation to the events of the summer and then his operation and rehab to come back from that.

"I have a good relationship with Adam, I've always got on well with him and I'm pleased for him to be getting out and getting on with his football.

"It's also with a scenario that suits him and he can move on with the rest of his life and do things he would like to do.

"All in all it's an amicable ending for both parties."

The former Hearts defender joined Saints from Hibernian on deadline day in January 2017 and went on to make 42 appearances for Saints, scoring once.
