Tottenham Hotspur 'eye Jonathan Tah as Toby Alderweireld replacement'

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly identify Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld should the Belgian leave the club this summer.

Uncertainty over Alderweireld's future at Spurs has grown in recent weeks, with the centre-back's current deal set to expire in 2019 and talks over an extension so far proving fruitless.

Spurs are understood to be willing to cash in on the 28-year-old this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer, and they have reportedly begun to look for players who may be able to fill the void.

The Mirror claims that Mauricio Pochettino's side have sent scouts to watch 22-year-old Tah, who has made almost 100 first-team appearances for Leverkusen since joining in 2015.

Tah could be available for around £35m this summer, although Leverkusen are likely to be reluctant to lose a player regarded by many as one of the brightest defensive prospects in European football.

Aside from Alderweireld, Spurs can currently call on Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth in central defence.
