Roma held by Atalanta BC

Roma fail to move above Lazio in the Serie A table after being held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma missed out on the chance to move above Lazio and up to second in the Serie A table after being held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta BC this afternoon.

The match was just two minutes old when Roma were awarded a penalty for Guglielmo Stendardo's handball inside the box, and Francesco Totti made no mistake in converting the resulting spot kick.

However, Atalanta were given a penalty of their own when Davide Astori brought down Urby Emanuelson, and German Denis kept his composure to slide in the set piece.

Roma looked for a quick response and Totti was inches away from connecting with Radja Nainggolan's dangerous cross.

Alessandro Florenzi was next to threaten when his near-post attempt was beaten away by Marco Sportiello.

Early in the second half, Emanuelson tried his luck from range with a curling effort that was comfortably held by Morgan De Sanctis.

As the game moved past the hour mark, Florenzi had another chance for the hosts, but his strike was kept out by Sportiello.

Roma continued to dominate, but they were unable to find a second goal as they drew for the 13th time in the league this season.
