Late Olmes Garcia strike secures Real Salt Lake victory over Sporting Kansas City

Real Salt Lake secure their first victory in four games as Olmes Garcia strikes in stoppage time to guide his side to a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City.

Olmes Garcia's stoppage-time strike has secured a 2-1 victory for Real Salt Lake against Sporting Kansas City to end their three-match winless run in the MLS.

The home side were the first to threaten as Justen Glad latched onto a cross in the six-yard box and headed at goal, but he was denied by a good save from Tim Melia.

Real took the lead in the 15th minute when Javier Morales lifted a free kick in from the right and Sebastian Jaime met the ball at the back post to head into the net for his first goal for the club.

Salt Lake had the chance to extend their lead when Devon Sandoval fired at goal from the edge of box, but his strike clattered off the post and bounced clear.

Kansas City got back into the match when Benny Feilhaber released the run of Dominic Dwyer, and the striker managed to maintain his composure to slot the ball past Nick Rimando.

In the second half, Sporting were denied the lead by Rimando as he made an excellent save to keep Dwyer's header out after he had latched onto Jalil Anibaba's cross.

At the other end, Melia made an impressive stop to keep Real at bay as Sandoval powered a header at goal from close range, but the keeper made a good reaction save.

The match looked to be heading for a draw until Garcia fired an effort at goal, which was deflected past Melia into the top corner to earn the home side all three points.
