Rennes manager Julien Stephan believes that Real Madrid-linked 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga should continue his development at the club for at least one more season.

Rennes manager Julien Stephan has urged in-demand youngster Eduardo Camavinga to stay at the club for at least one more season.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Roazhon Park this season, making 36 appearances across all competitions.

Camavinga's prodigious form has seen him linked to Real Madrid, who reportedly view him as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, but Stephan believes that he should continue his development at Rennes for now.

"I always give him advice to stay one more season at Rennes because it is his training club. After a good season, that quality leap must always be confirmed and it would be easier for him to do it here. I think he has one or two stages left before making the jump for a big one," he told AS.

"There is a difference between being able to play a high-level season at your training club and being able to play about 60 games per campaign at a giant club every three days.

"It already makes a big difference, but he has a couple of steps to take to establish himself in a top club. Following his progression he has the potential and all the qualities required to settle in a top club one day."

Rennes are understood to have put a price tag of £53m on Camavinga.
