Real Madrid confirm that captain Nacho has signed a one-year contract extension at the club, continuing his 22-year stay in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Nacho has signed a one-year contract extension at the club.

The long-serving defender was widely expected to agree fresh terms after being appointed the club's captain following the departure of Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabia.

Real Madrid have now made the news official, Nacho putting pen to paper on a deal which will extend his stay at the Bernabeu for a further year, until June 2024.

Nacho has been with Real Madrid since he was 11 years old, spending 22 years at the capital outfit in total, including 12 years in the senior setup.

In that time, the 33-year-old has made 319 appearances for the club across all competitions, winning 23 trophies including five Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles.

Nacho made 44 appearances in all competitions last season - his highest ever tally in a single campaign for the club.

The 24-time Spain international has often had to play a bit-part role in the first-team setup, though, with only 18 of his 27 La Liga outings last term coming from the start.

Madrid's announcement comes one day after they confirmed that Toni Kroos had also extended his stay at the club by a further year, continuing a busy summer of business already for Los Blancos.

Jude Bellingham has been the marquee arrival from Borussia Dortmund so far, while Fran Garcia, Joselu and Brahim Diaz have all also arrived during the early stages of the window.

In addition to tying Kroos and Nacho down to new deals, Madrid are also expected to announce an extension for Dani Ceballos, while Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz have all left the club.
