FIFA president Gianni Infantino announces that a new 32-team Club World Cup is set to launch in 2025, and would take place every four years.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has claimed that a new 32-team Club World Cup will launch in 2025.

A new Club World Cup concept was scheduled to begin in 2021 with 24 teams, but the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

However, Infantino has stated that a 32-team tournament will take place every four years, beginning with the first edition in June 2025.

In response to the announcement, the Premier League have said that they have not seen any formal proposals from FIFA about the new format for the Club World Cup and the expanded 2026 men's World Cup, although they are willing to continue engagement with FIFA.

Infantino has also revealed that the 48-team World Cup format with 16 groups of three, which is set to begin in 2026, could yet change following the drama that unfolded during the four-team group stage at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

The FIFA president also confirmed that the 2022 Club World Cup will be held in Morocco next year, featuring seven teams, including reigning European champions Real Madrid.
