Loic Remy insists that his decision to move to QPR rather than Newcastle was motivated by footballing reasons, not financial ones.

Loic Remy has insisted that his decision to choose Queens Park Rangers over Newcastle United was not financially motivated.

The French striker finalised an £8m move from Marseille to Loftus Road last week, having attracted interest from several other Premier League outfits.

Newcastle United also had a bid accepted for the 26-year-old, but Remy snubbed their interest in favour of a move to west London.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has suggested that his decision was driven by money, but Remy has stressed that he opted for the Hoops, who are known to pay big wages, purely for footballing reasons.

He said: "Money didn't come into it at all because Newcastle offered me a very good contract as well.

"I have seen a lot of people were surprised when I came to QPR and I have heard a lot about people saying that I came here for money. But it is in no way a decision based on financial reasons.

"Harry [Redknapp] already knows me and I am very excited about the project, and my decision wasn't based on money in any way. I could have even stayed at Marseille as I had a good contract there."

Remy has also explained that the presence of Redknapp as QPR boss was a factor in his decision to move to Rangers.
