Danny Hylton determined to improve goal tally from open play

Oxford United striker Danny Hylton aims to improve his scoring tally from open play after being taken off penalty-kick duty by boss Michael Appleton.

Danny Hylton has vowed to continue his scoring form for Oxford United, despite being taken off penalty duty.

The 26-year-old found the net against Crawley Town to earn his side a 1-1 draw on the opening day.

Hylton, who has scored just one of his last four spot kicks, was informed by boss Michael Appleton on Friday that Alex McDonald will now take over the role this campaign.

"The gaffer has made the decision, he's the big dog," the former Rotherham United man is quoted as saying by the Witney Gazette. "That's the way it is and I can't do anything about it.

"I'm just going to have to try and score some more goals from open play and keep going. I'll keep trying to win some penalties if I can and Macca is on them at the minute, hopefully he can stick them away."

Six of Hylton's 16 goals last season came from the penalty spot.
