Northampton Town takeover 'to be completed later today'

A proposed takeover of Northampton Town will reportedly be finalised by Kelvin Thomas and David Cardoza later today ahead of official confirmation at 3pm.

Kelvin Thomas will complete his takeover of cash-strapped Northampton Town on Thursday afternoon, according to a report.

The Cobblers have been handed a lifeline of sorts after chairman David Cardoza agreed to sell his controlling stake in the club to former Oxford United chief Thomas.

A press conference has been called for 3pm where, it is claimed by BBC Sport, confirmation of the deal will be officially announced 24 hours ahead of the deadline.

Northampton face the prospect of both an administration and winding-up petition as a result of their mounting off-field issues, but on the field things have looked a little brighter thanks to a strong opening few months to the campaign.

Chris Wilder's side are currently third in the League One table, just two points off leaders Plymouth Argyle.
