Jack Colback: 'No problem with supporters protest'

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is adamant that the club's fans have every right to feel aggrieved by the Magpies' lack of success on the pitch this season.

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has insisted that he has no issues with the protest by the club's supporters ahead of their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans staged a mass protest outside St James' Park against the Magpies' owner Mike Ashley, citing a perceived lack of ambition in his tenure at the club as their complaint.

Colback is adamant that the supporters have every right to feel aggrieved as Newcastle fell to their sixth defeat on the spin in a 3-1 loss to Spurs.

He told The Chronicle: "You can't have any issues with the way the fans are. It is clearly frustrating for them. There is nothing I can say that will make them feel any better.

"The last thing they want to do is read comments by me but we have to appreciate and thank the ones who did come. It's a great place to play but at the moment it is difficult. We have to be strong characters. It is a difficult industry when you aren't winning games.

"Nobody is going to come out and give us a win or help us other than ourselves. As a player you have to be strong enough to deal with that."

Newcastle are 14th in the Premier League, seven points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining this season.
