John Carver: 'Newcastle United could be relegated'

John Carver admits that relegation should be a concern for his Newcastle side following the 3-1 defeat to Spurs.

John Carver has warned his Newcastle United side that relegation remains a real possibility after this evening's 3-1 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies slumped to their sixth successive Premier League defeat to stay seven points above the drop zone with five games remaining.

Asked if they could drop down to the Championship, Carver told The Chronicle: "Absolutely, we are in amongst it.

"You have sides - and I will use Leicester as an example - winning games. But we aren't. We have to try to find a way of finding points."

Jack Colback threw Newcastle a lifeline by cancelling out Nacer Chadli's first-half opener within a minute of the restart at St James' Park.

However, Christian Eriksen's deceptive free kick, coupled with Harry Kane's cool finish late on earned an away win for Spurs.

Carver's side host Swansea City next Saturday.
