Aitor Karanka "proud" of Middlesbrough performance

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka praises the performance of his team after they edged past Queens Park Rangers on Friday night.

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka has revealed that he is "really proud" of his players after they recorded a 1-0 win at home to Queens Park Rangers.

Boro required a last-minute penalty from Grant Leadbitter to earn the three points at the Riverside Stadium, but Karanka was full of praise for his team after they had suffered a heavy defeat to Hull City before the international break.

The 42-year-old told BBC Tees: "I think it was an amazing game, I am really proud of my players.

"It was a big test after the defeat by Hull. We played a really good team, we were playing a recently relegated team and my players showed we had personality. It was really difficult to play with this atmosphere.

"They had everything clear and trusted themselves. It's an important goal because it was three more points, but the main thing is the way we have won, we never panicked even at 90 minutes."

The result on Friday night has seen Middlesbrough move into third position in the Championship table.
