Middlesbrough see off Wolverhampton Wanderers

Middlesbrough ease to a 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Riverside in the third round of the League Cup.

Middlesbrough have eased to a 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers to seal their place in the fourth round of the League Cup.

Following a slow start to the match Kike came close to scoring for the hosts, but his effort was turned behind by Carl Ikeme.

In the 36th minute Middlesbrough took the lead when the visitors failed to deal with a cross from Carlos de Pena, leaving Albert Adomah to fire in from close range.

The hosts doubled their advantage just before the hour mark as Adomah's low cross was slotted into the far corner by Diego Fabbrini.

Aitor Karanka's side added a third goal seven minutes later when Adomah arrived at the back post to finish from De Pena's cross.

Wolves tried to pull a goal back late on, but they were unable to find the net as Middlesbrough held on to book their place in the next stage of the competition.
