Manchester United defender Chris Smalling suggests that he would like to turn his loan deal at Roma into a permanent move.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has suggested that he would like to remain at Roma on a permanent basis.

Since moving to Stadio Olimpico on a season-long loan deal, Smalling has established himself as a key man at the Italian giants.

However, with neither United nor Roma agreeing to an option regarding a permanent deal, Smalling is due to return to Old Trafford later in 2020.

At a time when reports suggest that the clubs remain far apart regarding a fee, the Englishman has admitted that he has "an interesting decision" to make in the future.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 30-year-old said: "When I first came it was exciting but also daunting because you're not sure what to expect. New country, new experience, but considering the way I've settled in, the love that I have felt, especially from the fans but everyone in Rome, it will be an interesting decision to make.

"Some of the other players said if you really hit the ground running, the love that you can have in this city is unbelievable. That's really what I've felt and so have my family. Long may it continue."

Smalling has made 26 appearances in all competitions during the current campaign.
