Former Manchester United youngster Robbie Savage has urged the Red Devils to attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane during this summer's transfer window.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed another excellent campaign for Spurs, scoring 26 times and registering 16 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions, but Jose Mourinho's side were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night and are currently six points off the top four in the Premier League.

Manchester City and Chelsea are thought to have identified Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland as their leading target in the final third of the field, and Savage has said that his former club should "move heaven and earth" in an attempt to bring Kane to Old Trafford.

"Erling Haaland has probably overtaken Kane as first-choice target for Europe's elite, so he faces a stark choice. He can stick around at Tottenham, break [Alan] Shearer's record, cement his place as a Spurs legend and take his chances that a medal or two might come his way," Savage wrote in his column for The Mirror.

"Or if his old boss Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Manchester United come calling, does he want to be a winner – and have the medals to show for it? United have not won anything for four years, but the way they managed a tricky away leg in the San Siro to beat AC Milan was miles ahead of Tottenham's disarray in Zagreb.

"I've said before that United are a top-class centre-forward away from being truly frightening, so I'll say it again. If he can't get Haaland, new director of football John Murtough should go all-out to bring Kane to Old Trafford. Move heaven and earth for him."

Kane has scored 214 goals in 326 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions but has not won a single trophy during his time in the first team.
