Liverpool target Kai Havertz opens door to Bayer Leverkusen exit

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz says that he is "ready to take a big step" amid suggestions of interest from Liverpool.

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz has revealed that he is "ready to take a big step" in his career amid suggestions of interest from Liverpool.

The Reds, alongside the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich, have been strongly linked with the Germany international ahead of this summer's transfer window.

The 20-year-old scored 20 times in all competitions for Leverkusen last season and has again been in good form this term, contributing 10 goals and eight assists in 34 outings.

Havertz has insisted that he is happy at his current club but has vowed to soon take the next step, revealing that he would be open to a move abroad.

"I'm ready to take a big step, and I like challenges. For me, this also includes abroad," Havertz told Bild. "Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good. I have always said that. But of course I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That's my ambition.

"The coach is a very important person for me. It must be a good fit. You can see that with our coach, Peter Bosz. For me, the sporting direction of the club is also reflected in the choice of coach."

Havertz's current deal in Germany will run until the summer of 2022.
