Manchester United too strong for Swansea City

Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck score in the second half as Manchester United get the better of Swansea City 2-0 at home in the Premier League.

Manchester United have maintained their chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Swansea City at Old Trafford.

David Moyes's side controlled proceedings in the opening stages of the contest and were unlucky not to surge ahead in the ninth minute when Adnan Januzaj's free kick from the edge of the box came back off the crossbar.

The hosts continued to create chances as the first half progressed, with Patrice Evra, Darren Fletcher and Danny Welbeck all going close.

United's pressure eventually paid off in the first minute of the second half when Antonio Valencia tapped in from close range after Gerhard Tremmel had kept out Shinji Kagawa's header.

Welbeck redeemed himself for his miss in the first half by scoring the Red Devils' second of the evening just before the hour mark, guiding the ball home from inside a crowded Swansea penalty area.

Chris Smalling and Kagawa had good chances to add to the tally, but United had to settle for a 2-0 win that keeps them in the hunt for a top-four finish in the league.
