Louis van Gaal hails "amazing" Wayne Rooney landmark

Man United manager Louis van Gaal hails Wayne Rooney's "amazing" achievement of moving second in the all-time scoring lists for both the Premier League and the club.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has heaped praise on Wayne Rooney following the captain's landmark winning goal against Swansea City this afternoon.

Rooney netted his 238th goal for the club to take him into second in their all-time list, above Denis Law and behind only Sir Bobby Charlton.

It was also his 188th Premier League strike, overtaking Andy Cole into second place in those all-time rankings too, and Van Gaal believes that there is still more to come from his skipper.

"It is amazing and that on the age of 30 years," Van Gaal told reporters.

"Now we are playing much more matches but still it is an achievement. For me, it is more important he scores today. I hope it is a fantastic starting point for the team and for him."

Rooney's goal was enough to hand United a first victory in their last nine games in all competitions.
